If you are experiencing some trouble with your PS4 console, the Safe Mode allows you to start only the system with only the core components running. The Safe Mode presents you with options which may help you correct issues your console might be having and allows it to start normally.
In this article I will show you how to start your PS4 system in Safe Mode and explain the options it provides.
Step 1: Starting the PS4 in Safe Mode
- Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the device. The power indicator will blink for a short period of time before finally turning off.
- Once the console goes off, press and hold the power button and release it after you’ve heard two beeps: one when you first press and another after seven seconds.
- Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the USB cable and the PS button on the controller. The Safe Mode will come up the screen shortly.
Step 2: Exploring Safe Mode Options
The Safe Mode presents you with 7 options. Which consist of the following:
- Restart System: Leaves Safe Mode and restarts the PS4 normally.
- Change Resolution: Changes the screen resolution to 480p when the console is restarted.
- Update System Software: This allows the PlayStation 4 to update the System Software via Internet, USB Drive, or Disc.
- Restore Default Settings: Restores the entire system to default factory settings.
- Rebuild Database: Scans the storage and creates a new database of all content. May take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
- Initialize PS4: Wipes all user data and restores the PS4 like it just came out of the box. Backup your data before proceeding with this option.
- Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software): Deletes everything from the hard disk, including the System Software. You have to download a reinstallation System Software to get the system running again.
