Many iPhone/iPad users are experiencing pop-ups that are directing them to call 1-800-876-6855, a number they claim takes you directly to Apple support. The pop-up is impossible to get out from, without completely exiting Safari and taking some steps that ensure it won’t come back.
The pop-up claims that the user has downloaded a virus onto their iPhone/iPad, and that the only way it can be fixed is by calling the number. It says that the number directs you to Apple support who will be able to offer assistance and resolve the problem. It is not the case that the user has a virus, or that the person on the end of the phone will amend the problem.
Some users who have never experienced scams like this may call the number. Upon calling, users have been asked for the Apple ID, first and last name, and even their credit card information. By giving away this information, people have had their identities stolen and money taken from their bank accounts. To avoid this, follow these simple instructions to get rid of the pop-up.
