Over time, a battery’s performance will degrade. Not only is it important to consider the way in which you charge your phone, but it’s also important to consider how you store your phone when you won’t be using it for long periods of time.

Apple offers recommendations for maintaining good battery life on all of its products, including suggestions for how to store your phone on a long-term basis. Follow the below instructions to store your phone in a way that maintains good battery life.
Store at 50% Battery
- The first step to ensuring you maintain good battery life is finding somewhere cool and dry for your device. You should ensure that there is no chance of water or moisture in the air damaging the phone, and that the temperature sits at around 32° C (90° F).
- Do not completely discharge your device. Only store your phone when the battery life is at around 50%.
- When your phone reaches 50%, turn it off by holding down the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears.
- Slide the red slider to the Off position and your phone will now be switched off.
- Store your phone in the cool and dry place you have selected, and if you plan on storing the device for more than six months, be sure to turn it on twice a year and recharge the battery back up to 50%.
Remember that when you decide to switch on your device after a long period of time, you may have to charge it for up to 20 minutes before it switches on, as the device can enter a low-battery state.
