Dell SupportAssist is developed by Dell, and it comes preinstalled on most of new Dell computers, notebooks and tablets which are running Windows operating system. If there is not Dell SupportAssist application installed on your Dell machine, you can download application from this LINK. When Dell SupportAsisst detects issue, software will send system state information to Dell for troubleshooting. After Dell gets message, they will contact you and help you to solve issue with your computer, notebook or tablet.
Third software which is using the same .exe name, pcdrcui.exe, is Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox. Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is preinstalled on most of new Lenovo computers, notebooks and tablet which are running Windows operating system. Software provides testing memory and HDD over web. Some of users said that they can not run PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage, because pcdrcui.exe file is corrupt. Why this problem occurred? There are few reasons including conflict between files, firewall is blocking application, some files are missing or malware infections.
There are few methods which can help you to solve issue with file corruption.
Method 1: Reinstall application
When you have a problem with some application first step is to reinstall application. Some applications provide repair mode, and some applications do not. At first you will need to uninstall PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox from your computer. After that you will need to download latest version of PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox and install on your computer. We will explain you how to uninstall and install Dell SupportAssist. The procedure is the same for PC-Doctor and Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox, too.
- Hold Windows logo and press R
- Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter
- Program and Features will open, where you need to select one of the installed software on your computer, including PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox. We will uninstall Dell SupportAssist.
- Click Uninstall to remove PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox. Please wait until the current program is finished uninstalling.
- Restart your Windows
- Install PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox. If you do not have setup files, you need to download software from their websites mentioned in text above.
- Run PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox
Method 2: Complete uninstall application
By end users experience, PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage slow down the computer and interfere with other programs, and best solution is to remove this software. If you do not want to use PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage, you should uninstall software from your computer. Procedure of uninstalling software is described in Method 1, from step 1 to step 5.
Method 3: Unblock pcdrcui.exe in Firewall
What is Firewall? Firewall is a network security system which controls incoming and outgoing network traffic between your computer and other networks, including Internet. There are different types of firewall devices, software based or hardware based. Some of software based firewalls are Windows firewall or third party firewall, including Zone Alarm, Comodo, AVS Firewall or other. Hardware based firewalls are security devices which are much more expensive then software based firewalls. You need to unblock pcdrcui.exe in firewall. In this method we will unblock pcdrcui.exe in Windows Firewall. If you are using third party firewall software, you need to do the same configuration, which will include allowing pcdrcui.exe to work in LAN/WAN. You need to use user account with Administrator privilege to do firewall changes
- Hold Windows logo and press R
- Type firewall.cpl and press Enter
- Open Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall where you need to allow pcdrcui.exe
- Click Change settings and and then click Allow another app… at the bottom of window.
- Click Browse to locate pcdrcui.exe file
- Navigate to following location: C:\Program Files\Dell\SupportAssist and then click By default your system is installed on C:\ partition, and pcdrui.exe is located in Program Files folder.
- Click Add
- Dell SupportAsist is added and allowed to work through your firewall. Click OK.
- Run PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage
Method 4: Remove adware with AdwCleaner
AdwCleaner is a free removal tool for adware, PUPs, toolbars and hijackers. You will need to download AdwCleaner from Internet and then scan and clear all threats from your computer.
- Open Internet browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge or other)
- Open website from this LINK and download AdwCleaner
- Run AdwCleaner and then click Scan (Look for Adware/PUPs). If AdwCleaner finds some adware or PUPs, you will get an option to remove all threats. In case AdwCleaner does not find anything, you will get notification for that, too.
- Restart your Windows
- Run PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage
Method 5: Remove unnecessary software
Some applications can make a lot of problems if you installed them on your computers. If you are using some of these applications, Ad-Aware Antivirus, ffdshow, Fitbit Connect, FrostWire 6.2.2, Spybot – Search & Destroy, please uninstall them. Procedure of uninstalling software is described in Method 1, from step 1 to step 5.
If you do not want to use PC-Doctor, Dell SupportAssist or Lenovo ThinkVantage to scan your hard disk for bad sectors, you can use tool named Check Disk. Check Disk is integrated in Windows operating system and we will show you how to use it, as a bonus of this article. You can check one partition or all partitions. Please note if your hard disk has bad sectors, you should backup all your data to external hard disk, USB flash drive or NAS (Network Attached Storage).
For Windows VISTA and Windows 7
- Hold Windows logo and press E to open Windows Explorer
- Right click on your system partition, by default it is Local disk (C:)
- Choose Tools tab and then click Check now…
- Select Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors and then click Start
- Windows can’t check the disk while it’s in use and you will need to restart your Windows by clicking Schedule disk check
For Windows 8 and Windows 10
- Hold Windows logo and press E to open File Explorer
- Right click on your system partition, by default it is Local disk (C:)
- Choose Tools tab and then click Check
- Click Scan drive if you want to scan your hard disk.
- After Windows finished checking your hard disk, you should restart your Windows
