How to Fix the Logitech Gaming Software not Opening on Windows?

What Causes Logitech Gaming Software Not to Open on Windows?

There aren’t many distinct causes which cause this problem to appear and most troubleshooting methods come down to the general fixes which can be applied to most programs. Still, we have prepared a shortlist where you can check out possible causes and see how they apply to your scenario.

  • Logitech process is running – If Logitech Gaming Software starts up with Windows, the process which started up may be fooling Windows into thinking the program is open when it isn’t. This can be resolved by ending the Logitech task and preventing it from starting up!

Solution 1: Restart the Logitech Process in Task Manager

The Logitech process in Task Manager is a genuine cause of this problem and many users were able to resolve the problem instantly by ending its task in Task Manager and by disabling it from startup. This occurs because Logitech Gaming Software starts up with Windows and it tricks Windows into thinking it’s open when it isn’t. Follow the steps below!

  1. Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc key combination by pressing the keys at the same time to open the Task Manager utility.
  2. Alternatively, you can use the Ctrl + Alt + Del key combination and select Task Manager from the popup blue screen which will appear with several options. You can also search for it in the Start menu.

  1. Click on More details at the bottom left part of the window to expand Task Manager and search for the Logitech Gaming It should be located right under Apps or Background Processes. Select it and choose the End task option from the lower right part of the window.

  1. Check to see if the problem has been resolved and if you are still struggling to open Logitech Gaming Software. If the problem persists, you should disable it from startup. Navigate to the Startup tab in Task Manager, select the Logitech Gaming entry, and click the Disable button at the bottom.

Solution 2: Perform a Clean Reinstall

Reinstalling the tool got the job done for countless users who struggled with the same problem.   2. You might lose all profile data during the clean install. To back it up, navigate to the following location on your computer by opening the Windows Explorer and clicking on This PC:

  1. If you are unable to see the AppData folder, you may need to turn on the option which enables you to view hidden files and folders. Click on the “View” tab on File Explorer’s menu and click on the “Hidden items” checkbox in the Show/hide section. File Explorer will show the hidden files and will remember this option until you change it again.

  1. Make sure you select all profile data .xml files, right-click the selection, and choose the Copy option from the context menu. Paste these files somewhere for safekeeping!
  2. Click on the Start menu and open Control Panel by searching for it. Alternatively, you can click on the gear icon to open Settings if you are using Windows 10.
  3. In Control Panel, select to View as Category at the top right corner and click on Uninstall a Program under the Programs section.

  1. If you are using the Settings app, clicking on Apps should immediately open a list of all installed programs on your PC.
  2. Locate the Logitech Gaming Software entry on the list and click on it once. Click on the Uninstall button above the list and confirm any dialog boxes which may appear. Follow the instructions on-screen to uninstall Logitech Gaming Software and restart your computer afterward.

After this, you will need to delete its data left behind on your computer by following the set of steps below:

  1. Navigate to the following location on your computer by opening the Windows Explorer and clicking on This PC:

  1. Delete the Logitech Gaming Software folder in the Logitech folder. Reinstall Logitech Gaming Software by downloading the installer from their website by following this link, running it from your Downloads folder and following the instructions on-screen. The problem should be gone by now.

Solution 3: Allow Logitech Gaming Software in Windows Firewall

This is a rare occurrence but sometimes the tool fails to run properly unless it has been allowed in Windows Defender Firewall as a special executable. It needs Internet access to check for updates and to refresh its feed so you should provide it without firewall interruptions by following the steps below!

  1. Open up Control Panel by searching for the utility in the Start button or by clicking the Search button or the Cortana button at the left part of your taskbar (bottom left part of your screen).
  2. After Control Panel opens, change the view to Large or Small icons and navigate to the bottom to open the Windows Defender Firewall.

  1. Click on Windows Defender Firewall and click on the Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall option from the left side list of options. A list of installed apps should open. Navigate to where you installed Logitech Gaming Software (C:\Program Files (x86) by default), open the folder, and choose the LCore.exe file.

  1. Click OK and restart your computer before checking whether Logitech Gaming Software now opens properly!

Solution 4: Run Logitech Gaming Software as an Administrator

Providing administrator permissions for the main executable was able to resolve the problem for many users and we suggest you try it out as well!

  1. Navigate to the main Logitech Gaming Software installation folder which depends on what you chose during the installation. The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Logitech Gaming Software.
  2. Locate the exe file and change its properties by right-clicking its entry either on the Desktop, the Start menu or the Search results window and choose Properties. Navigate to the Compatibility tab in the Properties window and check the box next to the Run this program as an administrator.

  1. Under the Compatibility mode section, uncheck the box next to the Run this program in compatibility mode for option if it was checked before accepting the changes.
  2. Make sure you confirm any dialogs which may appear for you to confirm with admin privileges and Logitech Gaming Software should launch with admin privileges from now on. Open it by double-clicking its icon and try to see if opens successfully.
