In previous versions of Windows, like Windows 7, when you wanted to move one folder into another folder, which had the same name, a confirmation dialog appeared asking you whether you want to merge both folder together into one. If you agreed and clicked YES, Windows created one folder with the contents of both initial folders. This may be helpful sometimes but not always. In case you did not want to merge the folders, Windows at least gave you one change to revert back by showing you a merge warning, giving you the chance not to merge those 2 folders.
In Windows 8 and 10, Microsoft changed that behavior and removed the said merge warning. If you copy one folder into another folder with the same name, the folders will be merged into one folder, without a merge warning and without a confirmation dialog.
Fortunately there is way to bring back said confirmation dialog in Windows 8 and 10 and in this guide I will show you how to do just that. Follow the next steps and check afterwards if the confirmation dialog appears, while trying to merge 2 folders.
To re-enable the confirmation dialog in Windows 8 and 10,Open the Windows Explorer by holding the Windows-Icon on your keyboard and then clicking on E on your keyboard.
Now click on the View tab which you find on the top of the Windows Explorer. After that click on Options and then choose “Change Folder and Search Options“, which you find on the top right. In the now opened Window, click on the View tab and navigate down to Hide folder merge conflicts and disable it. Afterwards click on OK and try to merge 2 folders into one folder.
If everything worked out, you should get a confirmation dialog asking you to merge 2 folders.
