This issue occurs where iTunes has been previously installed on a Windows computer. It gets corrupt when the user tries to upgrade/re-install initially and then the subsequent attemps fails where iTunes installation usually rolls back due to the traces it’s installer finds. As a result; you’re unable to update iTunes.

Reinstalling after uninstalling doesn’t affects your iTunes library.

The aim of this guide is to re-install iTunes without issues; in order to do so we will use a trial version of an uninstall program to uninstall the program files, it’s registry settings and all the traces in the folders.

To continue; follow the steps below:

a) Go to www.revouninstaller.com and download the 30-day trial.

b) Open RevoUninstaller after it has been installed and search for the word Apple in the search bar; remove/uninstall all of the Apple programs it finds (one by one) and make sure you scan at the end of the uninstallation process so it can find the left over files and traces; then select all of them and choose Remove to remove them.

c) After you’ve search for the word apple; search for the following keywords and remove them as well.

bonjour - quicktime

Here’s a complete list of all the programs you should uninstall:

1) iTunes
2) Apple Software Update
3) Apple Mobile Device Support
4) Bonjour
5) Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later). On some systems, iTunes might install two versions of Apple Application Support. This is expected. If both are present, be sure to uninstall both versions.
6) Quicktime

d) Once all of the apple associated programs have been removed; go to the iTunes site and re-download Apple iTunes setup.

e) Reboot your PC and re-run the setup.

d) This should fix the issue and your iTune should be back.

Now when you re-open iTunes; you will see the library and all related data automatically imported and sorted back into iTunes
