Remix OS, the Android operating system designed for desktop PC, is compatible with many WiFi devices after installation, using generic drivers. But a number of users report that certain brands of USB WiFi adapters, and USB dongles / pocket WiFi especially, are not recognized by the system. Some of them may simply appear as a USB storage device, with no WiFi connectivity available.
In this guide, I will show you how to address this problem, but it requires a third-party launcher installed and running on Remix OS – because we need a widget on the launcher home screen, and Remix OS native launcher does not support widgets. This is be a rather complicated process, as Remix OS does not support third-party launchers without tinkering in the system, but I wrote a guide for doing it – see “How to enable custom launcher and LWP on Remix OS” before continuing with this guide.
After you have enabled a third-party launcher (I recommend Nova or Google Now Launcher) on Remix OS, continue with the steps below. However, I’m sorry to say that you will need an alternative method of connecting to the internet in the meantime, such as an Ethernet cable or mobile hotspot using Bluetooth or USB OTG cable. This is because the app we need to download to enable USB WiFi dongle support cannot simply be installed as an offline .apk, it needs internet access to set itself up.
- Download “PPP Widget 3” from the Google Play Store and install it.
- Go to Settings>About>tap Remix OS version until unstable updates are activated.
- Tap on Build Number until Developer Mode is also activated.

- Depending on your launcher, bring up the widgets access menu. You should be able to hold down left-click on the home screen, to emulate a long-press of a touchscreen.
- Scroll down to find the PPP Widget. Drag it to the Home Screen.
- Connect your USB dongle and the PPP Widget should automatically become activated.
