Windows Updates is a program that comes packed into Windows, managed and maintained by Microsoft. It is a way for Microsoft to push updates to your system and apply them. Issues with Windows Updates are a common occurrence. A basic user is usually left baffled when issues occur with Windows Updates and the updates aren’t being installed. In this guide, we will address a similar issue where the Windows Update program is stuck in a reboot loop, and every time you open it, it tells you to “Restart your computer to install important updates”.
This issue is triggered by a Registry Key called “RestartRequired“. Simply deleting it and rebooting the system will fix the issue. To do this,
Hold the Windows Key and Press R. Type regedit and click OK
In the Registry Editor window, browse to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RestartRequired
Once there, expand Auto Update key under Windows Update and delete the key called RestartRequired. Make sure not to delete anything else, ONLY delete RestartRequired. If you can’t find it there, then you may ask us on eQuestions for further assistance. Deleting incorrect registry keys can cause serious system corruptions.
