Error 800703F1 is a windows update error which comes up when you’re trying to update using the Windows Updates utility.
The error is generally due to the component hive being corrupt. In order to fix the issue; i will be listing the steps below, make sure you follow all the steps to the end.
Before you begin; prepare for the unexpected by backing up all your important files and data incase you need to revert to factory settings as a last restore.
1. Download the COMPONENTS.ZIP file.
2. Save the file to your desktop; right click on it and select Extract All. Choose Show extracted files when complete while extracting the files.
3. Let the extracted components file stay open.
4. Hold Windows Key and Press R and type C:\Windows\system32\config then click OK
5. In the System32\Config folder; locate components file and rename it to components.bak
6. Now copy the extracted components file to System32\config
7 . Now run command prompt as administrator by clicking Start -> type cmd ; right click cmd and select run as administrator
8. In the black command prompt; type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit enter.
wait for the dism to repair the hive; once done, check updates again. If this doesn’t resolves the issue; we’ll need to check the dsm log; for this feel free to post in the comments section below.
